It seems that Twitter is cracking down on spam recently, even though most accounts that have been created on the site are made for commercial purposes.

There is only one Lady Gaga, one Justin Bieber, but perhaps a hundred thousand accounts or even a million that have those keywords in the name.

Even the actual celebrities themselves are getting paid to promote products, for example Snoop Dogg apparently charges $3,000 per tweet, and Kim Kardashian about $10,000.

The problem is not actually that they are charging companies to tweet their products to their millions of followers, but that these product endorsements are done without full disclosure.

There are tons of places where you can get paid to tweet something, from Fiverr, to Microworkers, to Buy Sell Ads, and there is no way that Twitter will ever get rid of commercial tweets.

For that matter, the entire internet is a commercial place, almost every page on the net has ads on it.

The way to get around this, is to disclose that you are doing a commercial tweet, by having (sponsored) in the tweet.

Personally, I find Twitter’s new policy of cracking down on spam very annoying, as they suspended my accounts which I had been using in the same way for years.

You have to be very careful to read the rules, and follow them, but as far as I can tell, that’s the main thing they are cracking down on. Fake celebrities, and undisclosed product endorsements.
