It is not easy to find a product that is completely new, or more interesting than the others in that niche.
To figure out what sort of product you want to sell, you should investigate the competition on many different keywords in a Google search to start with, then perhaps the competition in a cheap advertising campaign.
Keyword research, and understanding the market competition is very important, although even if you are in a high competition niche like weight loss, there are still many ways you can sell your product if it’s good.
The most important thing to have in a high competition niche is a good profit margin, and a product which creates an emotional urge to buy, which allows you to get a good return on investment in advertising and promotion campaigns.
Think of something fairly new, that people don’t know about yet, or haven’t tried before, and if you can’t make your own, try becoming an affiliate for new and interesting products on Clickbank, or even Amazon.
If you can get your ad in front of lots of people cheaply, then odds are they might buy it just because they’re impressed with the new technology.
Ways to Sell a Product
There are a lot more than two ways to sell things online, but basically it comes down to free ways, like Google, and your own social networks, or by paying someone for advertising and promotion.
If you are going via the SEO route, you either need to do thorough research on a micro niche, and learn how to rank well all around the world for it on your own, or hire an SEO company to do it for you.
SEO is not by any means guaranteed, as Google change their algorithms constantly, and if you do find a profitable niche, odds are someone with a better knowledge, or more money will come in and take over the search themselves.
It’s nevertheless a good way to get heaps of traffic for free, (or practically free), from a Google search, although 99% of all really profitable keywords have extremely stiff competition.
They have software that does keyword research for you, and works out which niches have good potential, but then that doesn’t mean it’s definitely going to work.
I personally, would suggest keeping the keyword research in mind, but the thing to keep at the front of your mind is profiting from a paid advertising campaign, if it’s at all possible to do.
If you can make a good return on investment in an advertising campaign, and you have millions of potential customers around the world, that’s it, you win.
Even if your profit is an average of only one dollar per sale, but you can repeat it a million times, without too much work, then you’re a millionaire.
There are two billion people online, and growing all the time, and if you think that even a half of a percent of all these people might buy your product, then you have to think of how much you’d be willing to spend to reach them.
My suggestion, is try every form of advertising you can think of, see if it’s profitable, see which campaign is the most profitable, and move your money into that one.
This is called split testing, and there are many different ways to go such as Google Adwords, Facebook Ads, Chitika, (and many other advertising firms), and of course, you can pay people to tweet and share your site on social networks.
In my view, sharing on social sites is one of the best ways to reach people at an affordable price, and you can get a good return on investment if the product has widespread appeal.
